What is a Logic Grid Puzzle?
Logic grid puzzles (also known as Einstein puzzles) are deductive reasoning challenges where you use clues to match items across different categories. Your goal is to figure out which items belong together by systematically eliminating possibilities.
The Objective
Use the provided clues to determine the correct relationships between items in different categories. For example, if the categories are "Names" and "Pets", you need to figure out which person owns which pet.
Example: If there are 4 people (Alice, Bob, Carol, Dave) and 4 pets (Cat, Dog, Bird, Fish), you need to match each person to their pet using logical deduction.
Using the Logic Grid
The logic grid is your main tool for solving puzzles. Each cell represents a possible relationship between two items.
Grid Interaction Mechanics
Click any cell to cycle through three states:
Solving Strategy
- 1Read all clues carefully - Start by reading through all the clues to understand what information you have.
- 2Mark direct relationships - If a clue directly states a relationship (e.g., "Alice owns the cat"), mark a checkmark in that cell.
- 3Eliminate impossibilities - If a clue rules out a relationship (e.g., "Bob doesn't own the dog"), mark an X in that cell.
- 4Use deductive reasoning - If you know Alice owns the cat, then Bob, Carol, and Dave don't own the cat. Mark X's accordingly.
- 5Look for patterns - Sometimes combining multiple clues reveals new information through logical deduction.
- 6Work systematically - Go through each clue multiple times, as new information often reveals additional deductions.

Example Walkthrough
Scenario: Four people (Alice, Bob, Carol, Dave) each own one pet (Cat, Dog, Bird, Fish).
Clue 1: "Alice owns the cat."
→ Mark a checkmark at Alice-Cat
→ Mark X's at Bob-Cat, Carol-Cat, Dave-Cat (others don't own the cat)
→ Mark X's at Alice-Dog, Alice-Bird, Alice-Fish (Alice doesn't own other pets)
Clue 2: "Bob doesn't own the dog or the bird."
→ Mark X's at Bob-Dog and Bob-Bird
→ Since Bob already has X at Bob-Cat, Bob must own the Fish
→ Mark a checkmark at Bob-Fish
Continue this process with all clues until every cell is marked!
